This Tiny Coal-Fired Steam Turbine Locomotive Actually Works

What we think about it:

Reitter3 - "Small steam engines are a toys almost as old as steam engines themselves. I played when i was younger with my fathers"

GoodOmens - "Just like any hobby, gets super pricey really quickly. Some amazing (and realistice looking) 1 guage steam engines can fetch 3k+"

Reitter3 - "Yeah, many of the “toys” you can link to these steam are also hand made metal pieces in europe, which doesnt help its prices lol"

BFeely1 - "For Old Reddit viewers:"

samizdat1888 - "Thanks you :) I'm curious to know why the other one wasn't working."

Vadhakara - "There's a longstanding unfixed bug on New Reddit that adds a backslash as an escape character before underscores in URLs. This behavior causes the URLs to not work properly anymore."

SuddenlyElga - "I always wonder where all this cool stuff is going to end up when the last generation dies out."

GoodOmens - "Ebay, garage sales, and goodwill lol"

SuddenlyElga - "Unfortunately I think you’re spot on. I saw a documentary about a plastic model company and at the conventions they visited 98% of the people there were in their 70s."

FLEXXMAN33 - "Yes, but I've never heard of a steam turbine locomotive, either full size or miniature until today. There were never very many. It was an attempt for steam to compete with diesel in the early days of diesel-electric locomotives. Most of them were "steam-electric". TIL.

Reitter3 - "I read the title a little to fast perhaps"

FLEXXMAN33 - "Almost everyone did. I figured OP just didn't know what a turbine was since turbines are something jet engines have, not steam locomotives."

ExTrafficGuy - "My granddad had one as a kid. This would have been late 1920s, early 1930s. They used to leave a slick of oil and water behind them. Hence how they got the nickname "Birmingham Dribblers". Apparently drove my great grandma nuts. It's crazy to think they just gave kids a hot kettle with an open flame to play around with."

vid_icarus - "steam powered toys were actually a thing long before steam powered trains as it turns out."

ContentsMayVary - "Yeah but they normally run on meths, not coal!"

diacewrb - "normally run on meths"

Franklin_le_Tanklin - "Why doesn’t a meth powered train choo-choo?"

reload88 - "Ok, so take my upvote and please see yourself out"

mslashandrajohnson - "My brother had one. It was so cool."
