What we think about it:
scifenefics - "I am getting so tired of everything becoming a subscription. Even the most simple software that u only need to use for a few min once a month, is asking for $12 a month these days."
SacredGray - "There's a reason why "rent-seeking behavior" is such a negative phrase."
_RADIANTSUN_ - "Which is not really relevant to this situation and generally the phrase is used incorrectly a lot because the weird "rent" is in it."
ignorance-is-this - "There is an amazing world of foss, free and open source software. Between that and piracy, there is really no need to be paying for anythIng that could be avoided with free alternatives."
scifenefics - "Yup I am going all in. No more subscriptions for me, if I can avoid it."
Rev_LoveRevolver - "You can."
Faggaultt - "It’s nice and all but when you’re working it’s hard to use FOSS software especially when you’re in engineering and the construction sector."
desqviewX - "There is an amazing world of foss, free and open source software. Between that and piracy, there is really no need to be paying for anythIng that could be avoided with free alternatives."
garry4321 - "Its because they dont really change anything about their product other than a few new fringe features. Think about it; MS Office 2007 is MORE than relevant for use today, so if you bought a 2007 license, you could still use that daily. Then they realized; hey, we arent actually making this product better, so less people are buying it; why dont we restrict access to it going forward and make it a subscription service, so that they HAVE to keep paying for it monthly, and if they stop, they cant just use the product anymore."
desqviewX - "MS Office 2007 is MORE than relevant for use today"
Pfyrr - "Pirate everything!"
[deleted] - "RHEL, SLED and Ubuntu Pro walk into the room."
desqviewX - "You know what is a massive PITA to use for a desktop OS?"
djamp42 - "I hate Linux for desktop environments..I absolutely love it for server environments"
desqviewX - "I am getting so tired of everything becoming a subscription."
frenz9 - "The guitar tuning app I use for years suddenly no charges a monthly fee. It’s exactly the same and there’s no more improvements to be made."
TheCelestial08 - "Did you say "install Linux"? Cause I'm sure I heard you say "install Linux"."
Krash412 - "After getting a steam deck, the thought has crossed my mind."
Menarra - "Same here. Steam OS is super approachable and I can get most of my stuff to run on it."
