What we think about it:
ballsoutofthebathtub - "I will not be doing this."
WhyFlip - "I've been boycotting Samsung products for about 4 years now due to the bloatware in their products. I have been using LG since then but LG is going down the same path with the rampant, useless bloatware. Every update to my LG TVs I'm rewarded with more crap I never asked for, never wanted."
Graphics_Nerd - "I don’t even connect tvs to my network because the “smart” features are so worthless. I also refuse to be advertised to by my television."
driveslow227 - "I long for a dumb tv. The current screen i have is a 2014 1080p 55" and has no built in integrations. The AppleTV box is perfect and can be switched out at any time."
JumpyAlbatross - "Sony is about as close to that as you’re gonna get. My LG tv screams at me to update it to the latest version of shitware every time I turn it on."
Carsalezguy - "I have a few Sceptres that I really like, they still make dumb TV's."
theHugePotato - "Or you could... you know... use any smart tv as a dumb tv? I don't get what issue people have doing that. Disconnect internet from it and it's no different at all while still providing some value when you want it to. I'm using adfree youtube and Emby on my LG OLED. I could use external device but what's the point? When time comes that apps stop being supported, I'll buy an external box. What's so hard about it?"
David2442 - "I have a smart tv that isn’t connected to the internet, it’s slow"
Fishwithadeagle - "Just don't connect it and set it to open directly to your streaming device"
DiligentHelicopter70 - "I just plug in an Ethernet cable every year or two to update the software but that’s it. I hate smart TVs."
woutva - "Same, but would still like to use Youtube/Netflix on it :("
yellowflux - "The apps on my LG are good though. I find the subtitles are the perfect size via the native apps compared to chromecast/shield/etc where they're either too small or too big."
qtx - "Subtitle sizes etc are a TV setting you can adjust on any TV."
M0romete - "Yep. I seriously doubt the next tv I buy will be LG because of this. Also the software is quite bad. If I want to update the os or any app, i have to connect it to a hotspot and then when connecting to the wifi again, i have to add the password again, which we all know is a pleasure to do on those “keyboards”"
iamcandlemaker - "For me, it’s the dirty screen effect on the LG Oled. Never again!"
pescadoamado - "Which one did you have that problem with?"
iamcandlemaker - "CX, noticed it one dark scene. Now hard to miss. I don’t think it’s a warranty issue. Maybe I should try!?"
FewerFuehrer - "Yup, I don’t let my LG or my Samsung connect to the internet. As long as I can plug in an HDMI cable and it has a picture it doesn’t need updates."
cornishcovid - "Mines only used as a 2nd monitor, they pushed an update so now connecting the hmdi doesn't make it primary focus. So now I have to push up then select every time. Its not a huge problem but it's definitely one I never had before this crap."
